VocaLink employees take to the clouds

Ellie Fixter,
Senior Content and PR Manager,

Last week saw a 15-strong VocaLink team take to the rooftop of The Royal London Hospital to champion a cause that has won the hearts of VocaLink employees. They braved a 284ft abseil from the helipad in the driving wind and rain to raise money for the London Air Ambulance (LAA), aiming to keep its second helicopter in the sky.

London’s Air Ambulance is the charity that delivers an advanced trauma team to critically injured people in London. The service provides pre-hospital medical care at the scene of the incident and serves the 10 million people who live, work and commute within the M25. The team, which at all times includes an advanced trauma doctor and paramedic, perform advanced medical interventions, normally only found in the hospital Emergency Department, in time critical, life threatening situations. Missions commonly involve serious road traffic collisions, falls from height, industrial accidents, assaults and injuries on the rail network.

At VocaLink, employees are encouraged to take a day each year to volunteer and use their time to support others. Therefore, this latest fundraising for LAA, follows a whole number of fundraising events which employees at VocaLink have participated in this year, including the Prudential Ride London and the Bupa London 10,000 run.

We have worked together with the LAA this year, in a mutually beneficial partnership, to help not only raise money, but introduce more commercial thinking and the sharing resources, to support and improve their fundraising opportunities. Our aim is to not only create a positive impact on society by shaping the payments landscape worldwide, but we are also hugely committed to being a catalyst for positive change in the lives of every person and business that comes into contact with our services.

The team has so far raised a huge £4,880.00 – which doesn’t include the fund matching policy we have for employee fundraising efforts - and we are still receiving donations from generous, family, friends and colleagues both in and outside of the company and we are extremely grateful for every contribution.
